Haripur, Pakistan, was founded in 1822 by General Hari Singh Nalwa. General Nalwa was the Commander-in-chief of the Khalsa, the army of the Sikh Empire. Haripur was built as a fortress and was surrounded by a wall that only had four openings. That fortress later became the city police station. Haripur is located in a green valley, rich in fruits and vegetables. The town serves as the base market for the mountainous cities of Abbottabad and Mansehra and the rest of the Hazara Division. Allama Iqbal Open University, and the Hazara University have a campus in Haripur.[1]
