Skirmish at Rome Crossroad
Beginning on 1864/05/17 and ending 1864/05/17
The Skirmish of Rome Cross Roads occurred on May 16, 1864, when the advance of Gen. James McPherson´s (US) two A.C. (15&16), moving S. from Lay´s Ferry (Oostanaula River), enroute to Kingston, GA, were delayed 24 hrs. by Gen. William J. Hardee´s (CSA) rear guard. Hardee´s objective was to insure the safety of his wagon trains. Once his wagon trains had passed safely he retreated south toward Adairsville.
