The Georgia philosopher - humorist of the War Between the States and Reconstruction era, "Bill Arp, " in real life Maj. Charles H. Smith, in 1877 moved from Rome into a house which occupied the crest of the hill here. On this farm which he called "`Fontainbleau, " occurred many of the incidents of family and farm life he related to the delight of his readers.
