Here was fought on February 20, 1864 the Battle of Ocean Pond.

Under the immediate command of General Alfred Holt Colquitt "Hero of Olustee," this decisive engagement prevented a Sherman-like invasion of Georgia from the South.

Erected April 20, 1936´" the Alfred Holt Colquitt Chapter, UDC, Ga. Div .

Olustee Battlefield Monument, dedicated January 26, 1928, is located 2 miles east of Olustee on u.s. 90. This is the site of the Battle of Olustee, the largest in Florida during the Civil War. The 1864 battle is recreated every year on the Sunday closest to February 20th by members of the National Reenactment Society of Volunteers and the 1st Florida Regiment of Volunteers. NR.
