The cell in which Geronimo, Apache Indian Chief of the Chiricahua clan, was held, may be seen at Fort Pickens on Santa Rosa Island. Geronimo (1829- 1909) after terrorizing New Mexico and Arizona, 1875-85, was captured by Gen. N.A. Miles, with over 50 Chiricahua Apaches and held at Fort Pickens Oct. 1886-May 1888. He died at Fort Sill, Okla. One of his wives is buried in Fort Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola.
