1 mi. west was East Granby Landing of Friday´s Ferry (licensed 1754) across Congaree River. Floods destroyed the bridges, built 1791 and 1796 by Wade Hampton I. President Washington crossed here May 22, 1791 on his southern tour. Mt. Tacitus, 3 mi. south, was a plantation of Charles Pinckney (1757 - 1824), four times governor of South Carolina.
