Text:

This street, which is located five blocks north and is the westernmost in Columbia´s original plan of 1786, was named for Owen Roberts. He was a member of the First Provincial Congress from the parishes of St. Philip and St. Michael, and was commissioned colonel of the S. C. Continental Regiment of Artillery during the Revolution. Roberts was killed at the Battle of Stono, June 20, 1779.
