The Bledsoe Monument, 1110 mile northwest, marks the graves of Revolutionary War veterans Anthony and Isaac Bledsoe. Both were long hunters and explorers who settled in this region and were active in the civil and military life of the early Southwest. About 200 yards west was Bledsoe's Fort, built by Isaac in 1783 to protect the settlers during Indian attacks. Both brothers were slain by Indians near the fort.
